"Lucky Charms"

What are the odds of finding a Clover with 4 leafs? The average is, 10,000 three leaf clovers for every instance of a "true" four leaf clover! The leaves of four leaf clovers are said to stand for faith, hope, love, and luck. The four leaf clover is a universally accepted symbol of good luck. Legend says, Eve carried a four leaf clover from the Garden of Eden. The Druids held the 4 leaf clovers in high esteem and considered them a sign of luck for a long period. The first known literary reference to four leaf clovers as Celtic charms was made in the year 1620. At that time Sir John Melton penned, "If a man walking in the fields finds any four-leafed grass, he shall in a small while after find some good thing."

About Our "Lucky Charm" Clock Kit

We are now offering "The Lucky Charm Clock Kit" to our customers. It is a whimsical clock that keeps perfect time! If you look closely, you will see the "clover" design in the gear cut-outs, as well as the "boots" to the right of the frame. Additionally, there are horseshoes on the top to adjust timing, and a decorative "hat and cane" to make the clock festive. It was a fun clock for Joe Monincx to design, and I can tell you that people really loved our prototypes when we showed them off! Joe Monincx is the designer of our Puzzle Clock Kits, too. He is a very well known Canadian clock maker!

To better understand our new Lucky Charm Clock Kit, please read about our Puzzle Clock below, which is basically the very same clock. Only the frame, layout and gear cut-outs have been changed to make our "Lucky Charm" clock kit. I know this will "charm" and delight everyone who has made our Puzzle Clock Kit, as they will be even more at ease making a "Lucky Charm Clock Kit!" And if you have not assembled either clock kit, both are very simple and fun to make!

Also, please note that for the "Lucky Charm clock kits in our pictures have hand-painted wood. We did this to make the pictures stand out better. The "Lucky Charm" clock kit comes in either MDF, 28% resin-board, or laser-cut, imported Russian five-ply, marine grade, Baltic Birch , just as our Puzzle Clock Kit does. Both are very nice woods to work with!

Notes About Our Puzzle Clock Kit

Please remember: The "Lucky Charm" and "Puzzle" are really the same clock kits with different framing and decor!

We are now offering the "Puzzle Clock" made from imported Russian five-ply, marine grade, Baltic Birch. Our Puzzle Clock on this page is laser-cut from the finest of woods available, just as our other kits are.

This clock is most interesting in that it pre-dates the pendulum clocks by about 300 years. These clocks operate with what we call "a verge and foliot."  Essentially, the top horizontal bar moves left and then right, suspended by a thin cord.  The pallet engages the escape wheel while the bar turns back and forth and the escape gear is turned in one second intervals. The original verge and foliot clocks were not very accurate. In fact, many earlier versions of this clock had only an hour hand!

Well, things do change! This clock is now extremely accurate, thanks to the genius of a talented Canadian clock maker named Joe Monincx! He made this clock revolutionary by using not one, but two escape wheels. This changed everything! The Puzzle version of this antique clock is as accurate as any wooden clock ever made. The picture of the Puzzle Clock on the other page was taken in my living room. Next to my Puzzle Clock is an "Atomic" clock that is radio controlled. Each day that I wind it, the Puzzle Clock is never a full minute off from the radio controlled clock! Really! If I give The Puzzle Clock another day to make up the slight difference of the atomic clock, many times it "corrects" itself! Fun stuff!

The meticulously hand-selected wood of our clock kits finishes beautifully! Below is just an example of how the "Lucky Charm" clock kit parts will come to you, in pre-cut boards!

Can you believe it? No gluing, no nails? The clock pieces fit together with extreme precision. This kit is that well designed and cut (This one is laser cut!). The kit instructions are step by step and nicely detailed. Most people find this kit very relaxing to assemble. It is truly a pleasure to own this completed clock kit. Conversation piece? Absolutely! I think you will find that some people enjoy the antiquity of this clock over the pendulum clocks.

The Complete Baltic Birch "Lucky Charm" Clock Kit is $139.00 plus $13.90

Or, if you prefer, just $99.00 plus freight, in MDF wood.

Personal note: I love all of the clocks we offer, I truly do. They are all so different and so beautiful in their own way. What I can tell you about this clock is that it is possibly the most "hypnotic" clock I have ever seen! The Verge and Foliot were 300 years prior to the pendulum clocks, and people cannot "just walk by" this beautiful clock -- they stop and look, sometimes for a very long time! Now this clock is as accurate as any pendulum clock ever made, thanks to a genius Canadian woodworker named Joe Monincx! This clock is a lot of fun to build and I feel it is an inspiration to woodworkers and clock builders all over the world! It's a shame this clock wasn't offered during the 14th century where its most basic design comes from.

Bonus: "Lucky Charm" clock kits come with beautiful brass colored steel weights and winding cord! We do not have an instructional VHS video of this clock, only a nicely made, step-by-step instructional DVD that is very easy to follow. It  is the same DVD provided with our Puzzle Clock Kits, as they are really the same clocks. The instructions are very concise for constructing these delightful and beautiful clocks.
